Aging Out Loud with the COA
From Feud to fun to food, the Salina Senior Center has it all and
more for its annual Older Americans Month celebration in May.
“Age Out Loud” is the national theme for this year’s Older Americans
Month (OAM). All events at the Salina Senior Center are open to
Saline County residents age 50 and older.
“We’ve added several new events this year that we believe will be fun,
” said Leslie Eikleberry, Executive Director of the Saline County Commission on Aging (COA), which operates the
Salina Senior Center.
Among the new events are a Senior Dance on May 19, 2017, and a Senior Talent Show on May 22, 2017.
“We’ve had some interest in us hosting a dance for a while now, and we thought the talent show would be a good
way for Saline County seniors to Age Out Loud,” Eikleberry said.
Events for this year’s Older Americans Month include the following.
May 3…Operation Medicine Cabinet, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Dining Room. A deputy from the Saline County Sheriff’
s Office will be in the Salina Senior Center to collect unused and unneeded prescription medications.
May 6…Home Medical Equipment Drive, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on the south lawn. The COA is once again collecting
clean, gently used bath benches, grab bars, adjustable walkers, adjustable steel or aluminum canes, bedside
commodes, fully functioning wheelchairs, and other home assistive devices that people no longer need. We loan
these items out to seniors who cannot afford to purchase their own.
May 10…Color Exploration, 9-11 a.m. in the Dining Room. Coloring books for adults are all the rage these days.
